O.K. here we go. I have a 20' LARSON 204 Escape deck boat, with a 5.0 V-8 carburated engine. I'm considering a stainless steel prop for it, as I think that it would be better for the boat overall.

I do NOT understand pitch, at all.

I just looked at the # on the prop, and it is as follows: 832830445P19

I assume that the last 2 #'s (19) is the pitch of the prop.

I e-mailed LARSON, and I ask them about a different pitch prop, and they told me to go to a 18 pitch 4 blade. (I'd inquired about a 4 blade). (They talked in generalities.)

The present prop seems to do o.k., in as much as take off, etc. I was wanting a good hole shot, as well as more top end. (I still have some kid in me that likes speed). ;)

Presently the boat runs out at WOT at 50-53 mph, and I think the rpm's are about 4300 (I may be wrong).

The boat weighs 3100 #'s.

What in you all's opinion would I gain, or lose with a 4 blade prop, of stainless steel over say a 3 blade prop??

I'd like a twin prop set up, but I'm not sure what that would entail. (I assume a different shaft, if that is even possible).

Thanx

There are ss props made specifically for I/Os. A performance outboard prop may not get you what you want, depending on prop specifics. At 4300 you don't want any more bite, regardless if it comes from pitch or rake or cupping. Yes, your prop is a 19" pitch.

You should consider going to a 17 inch pitch to get your rpm's into the suggested range.

4300rpm's and 50plus MPH with a 19p prop.
That is real fast. Faster then anything Ive heard of before.
For the speed you are seeing, you rpm's should be much higher then 4300. I would suspect more around 5000 and above for a 19p prop to push you to 50+.
Recheck your rpm's before making a decision on a prop. If you can gps your speed, that is a plus.

The pitch number theoretically refers to the distance the prop will move through the water with one revolution. 19p=19inches.

Firestar, you may well be right on the rpm's I am probably wrong. I didn't/don't remember.
