Stall when put in gear

1976 Mercury 1150. When I pop the sucker into gear, forward or reverse, I stall. Not all the time, but enough to make it inconvenient when I am trying to dock her. It won't stall if I give it a quick thrust of power...I can usually keep it from stalling. <br /><br />Any suggestions>? Thanks again,<br /><br />Dominic
