1988 Mercruiser 4.3, Thunderbolt ignition, Alpha One

Hey guys, engine starts easily, but will stall if you try to give it more than 3/4 throttle. If I back off the throttle when it starts to stall it will pick back up. On occasion I do smell fuel.

I've searched other posts and have a list of things to check this weekend. Fuel filter, anti-siphon valve, fuel tank vent, plugs and wires. The only fuel filter I can find is the one at the carb. The fuel pump is not the original mechanical pump,it is an aftermarket electric pump.

1)How can I check to make sure the electric fuel pump is putting out enough pressure?
2)Is there anything else I need to add to the list of things to check?

P.S. I've really enjoyed reading thru this site. Thanks for the help and advice.

1) install a Pressure Gauge between the pump,+ Carb............

2) The Carb....... Sounds like the High-Speed circuit is Plugged........

Bondo, If I'm going to take the carb apart to check, should I just go ahead and get a re-build kit? Also, should the fuel pressure gauge be a type that I will leave in the line permanently? Thanks
