I've been running my rebuild (click here for more info) but I just can't seem to get it running right. Low speed just seems rough, working with the low speed jet doesn't seem to be getting me any where. The engine also when at low idle (neutral) randomly stalls (no load up, just dies).

My next step was to get a carb kit but when I pulled the plugs I noticed that #2 (middle) was quite wet/oily while #1 and #3 where dry with the usually light buildup.

Could I be dealing with a weak coil here, or should I still continue with a carb rebuild?

I've been looking at my Clymer manual and I'm not quite sure how to test the coil with out some special Merc tools, but then again I could be looking at the wrong ignition system (1993).

Just looking for ideas,

Thanks

K

can you please post your model, hp and make of the motor? YOu could try switching the coils and see if the fouled plug follows the coil. Might not hurt to retest compression.

Re: Stalling/Breaking up (70HP)

Sorry, I guess I was kind of vague with the vitals. It's a 1993 70HP. I was planning on switching the coils tonight to see if it would foul out a differnt plug, I guess I forgot that too, it doesn't pay to post when your tired and frustrated...

I'm going to bring my service manual and multi-meter along too, see what I can dig up. I think I have the Thunderbolt ignition (Coils, stator, Trigger, Switch and Rectifier), it's a Merc ignition at any rate. Any other suggestions would be welcome.

Thanks,

K
