I just purchased boat that needed saving.. a 1996 26 ft thompson carrea 2600. This boat is powered by a 7.4 volo penta. I was on the water yesterday and alternator belt snapped.. however I also lost fuel pressure. I was able to restart boat and power forward aprox 5 - 10 ft at a time, then it would stall. The motor did not appear to be overheated, ran well up to this point. Is it normal for fuel pressure to drop if this belt is broken ? is fuel pump powered by same belt ?

Ayuh,..... Welcome Aboard,..... Donno 'bout Volvo, but Merc used a belt driven fuel pump on some Big Blocks,....

Follow the fuel line, 'n take a Look,....

If it's belt driven, ya found the problem,...

If it's electric, follow the circuits,... I think Volvo uses relays, insteada switches like Merc,...

Alternator supplies power to the ignition circuit once the engine is running, so if alternator has no belt nothing runs apart from the pumps for a few seconds every time the ignition is turned on at the key.
