hey guys went to monty today for some fishing with the father in law. took the boat out for the first time in almost two years and wouldn't you know it, she didn't comply.

i have a 73 omc evinrude 85hp 2 cycle.
manual choke on the motor and an elec one on the throttle control box.
have a "warm up lever" on the control box as well.

here's the normal sequence that used to work.
prime and pull choke.
start and let run with choke out until she dies.
push choke in and re-start.
lift "warm up lever" up.
motor revs high for 5-10 mins while she warms up.
lower "warm up lever" and she idles down and its time to boogie.

today:
all of the previous except when the "warm up lever" is lowered she will sputter and stall in less than 1 min.
attempting to place throttle in forward or reverse and she will die as soon as it clicks into gear. (tried all different sequences for 45 mins.)

my father in laws says he thinks it is idling way too low, because the motor is really quiet when at normal idle. since day one it has always been that quiet.

plugs are good. gas is new this morning. would love some input guys.

thanks.

Rich.

Re: stalling problem 73 omc 85hp.

thanks tashasdaddy. the motor did start just wouldn't stay running in gear or at regular idle.

i saved that FAQ and am looking for the other. I'll complete all the steps as recommended.

keep your ears peeled as I'm sure i will be posting again before shes running.

thanks again!
