Stalling when accelerating in fwd and revr

Have a 84 70hp johnson...Starts up but when u put it in foward or reverse no power!!!!! It actually cuts out the second u put it in foward or reverse....Whats wrong???? It also dies in nuetral now ,when it did not die before....Any input would be very helpful... DEF am stumped at what the issue is..... p.s just saw a video of an 86 70hp evenrude in the water ,that does the same thing my engine does ......STALLING WHEN ACCELERATING ..In the video the engine eventually caught and was fine ,in the video he says it happens alot,but once it catchs the engine is fine .....WHAT IS THAT PROBLEM!!!!!!!

if it is truly the second you put it in gear, sounds electrical.

Now its starts up again ! (weird) Whn I put it in fwrd and reverse it does not stall , seems to be gettin a little better ... All that i did was ad seafoam?? what the ???????? Should i run a tank of gas threw her with more seafoam or????? Engine had not been started i 2 yrs ,does it just need sit and run at idled or what? Anymore advice would help.DO NOT want to start puliin stuff off ans replacn if i dont have to.... IM NOT A MECHANIC LOLOL!Thanks for the advice anymore be much appct!!!!!!

Jordan..you say the motor sat up for 2 years, was all of the fuel run out before it was stored? It sounds like you have gummed up carbs....

Jordan. relax. use the enter key and break up your posts. give information. consider taking it to a mechanic, if it hasn't been run in 2 years, has problems, and you don't want to tear it down (and I don't blame you).

Boats are not like cars; they have these problems all the time.

Iwill be cleaning the carbs tomm ,with seafoam spray.... She starts now again and will idle no prob ,But again as soon as u put her in gear she stalls!!!! I am also ordering a new coil pack (old one looks new but),and a recitfier.Looks like the original one.... I agree also that maybe the carbs are gummed up.....Let u guys knw what happens after that...Living in s florida DO NOT TRUST MECHS DOWN HERE !!! Will start replacing things first that I can do myself..... Got plenty of time .....Thanks for all your inputs!!!!More would be welcomed!!!! :redface:

Cleand the jets out this weekend...They were clogged up!!!! The bottom one more than the top two......................Now the engine does not stall in foward an reverse...It seems that I have fixd the stalling issue .Has power now in foward and reverse!!!!!!
