my other thread i made "70hp merc working" was short lived, although it ran flawless and the bogging disapeared i got infront of my house and slowed down and put it in reverse, fine. i pushed the throttle more and it died. I had to hold the choke to get it started. I put it in forward fine. but wont take the throttle now.....and when its stalled it makes like a clicking noise with the throttle still in fwd not neutral.

id like some help, the motor worked mint and randomly this issue came up. I will do a search aswell for similar topics. Thanks.

Your engine should be running at 650 rpm in forward gear. generally when these 3 cyls bog out you need to enrichen the idle a 1/8 turn out on both carbs. If it still does it do another 1/8th turn out. Your idle speed may drop when you do this. If it does you will have to increase your idle speed. This can be done with the idle stop or by adjusting the cable barrel or both.

when its stalled it makes like a clicking noise with the throttle still in fwd not neutral.
This is normal. It is your clutch dog rotating in reverse clicking over the
forward gear dogs. Nothing to worry about.

As for it being intermittent problem this is sometimes the way humidity effects an engine that is set to lean just like high and low pressure systems
can effect them. I would not be overly concerned unless it becomes a persistent problem. When an engine dies it is usually because of a lack of fuel. So you will have to choke it to start it again. This is normal. I think you should go have some fun with it.

Re: Stalls going into gear

ya it goes good now finally, got some new gas and oil in it. i was just shocked at the random issue after reversing. the idle is 1000 rpm warm, i never tried doing it fast or anything to force it since i wasnt desparate. will see about the idle adjustment and lynk and sync.

im also amazed at how this engine can run on 2cyl and sound fine while not under load. i later found out it was doing this and got it fixed up. wot never felt so good.
