we are looking at buying the 31ft. tarpon c/c by stamas, with t-225 yamaha 4-strokes. does anyone have an opinion on this combo? also,do you think the 4-strokes are enough to get her up and going with 6 people, full fuel, ect? don't want to buy the wrong set-up for that kind of $$$.

What can I say...ya can't get much bigger motors. Unless you want to try three. :p I have twin 2-stroke Evinrudes Ocean Pros, 175 HP, and it flies with six on board. 24' Boston Whaler Outrage with T-top. A T-top will knock off 2-3MPH, too. About 42-44 MPH in a three foot chop, WOT. It'll cruise at 32 MPH. All figures with six onboard. You're boats a lot bigger and heavier than mine. What's does Stamas say...not the dealer, if you know what I mean? Stamas is a great boat, I'm sure they will be straight with you. My personal guess is that it would take more time than you would like to get up on plane with that load (don't forget fuel) and the top speed would be around 36-38 MPH. I think you have a ligitimate concern and should take your pals for a ride. Be sure the tanks are full. Often a dealer will not do this; intentionally. Finally you'll want to have the quick power to run in a head sea, 5-6' plus. You need a test ride! ;)

i spoke to george stamas 2 days ago and he said that they had never run the outboards on any of their boats. they only run the inboards to check for leaks. he said that he hasn't heard any reports from his dealers or end users, that the boats are underpowered. like you said, a sea trial is a must. 400 gallons of fuel! should be fun trying to get the dealer to "fill her up"! thats about 2400lbs.I'm hoping to find a few owners or friends of theirs with this boat, even with 2 strokes to let me know how they like it. thanks for your input. p.s. where does the first mate, captain, adm. ect. come from? I'm new to this forum.

The administrator runs the site. As you add more comment (posts), 25 or so...they call you a Captain, at about 1000 post or so you get the Admiral designation. It is subjective, and goes to what you have to say, too. I have found I get more out than I give...a lot of good info here! Have you visited www.thehulltruth.com also very good. Keep us posted on the new Stamas. ;)

Just a thought, many dealers give a 'fill up' when 'new', mine did. I wouldn't hesitate to ask the tanks be full...2640# will make a difference. ;)
