Well, this question kinda has to do with boats I suppose. It didn't really fit in the 'Nothing to do with boats' category.

Anyways..here goes:

Well, 'ol Homer gets another kick in the head...

I bought this radio last year (Hasn't even been a year) It is a Standard Horizon Interepid VHF (w/DSC) remanufactured.

For the sake of argument, I won't name the web site I purchased it from. (yet...LOL)

I contacted the web site, and they said there was a 30 day return policy. Ok, fine, but I cannot find any literature saying the radio has a 30 day return. I tried to get back to the actual web page that advertised the radio, but it's gone, and they no longer offer any replacemnet remans. (Go figure)

My question is, does anyone here have one of these radios and/or has experience repairing them? I'm quite good at repairing old CB equipment, but I've never tinkered with VHF rigs.

And most importantly, should I even trust this thing if I do get it fixed? I haven't even had this radio on more than 20 hours or so!

Bottom line:

Should I pay the pro to fix it, or toss it on E-Bay for parts? I will have my bigger boat done some day, and I want a darn good, no hassle, always works-no-matter-what VHF. In other words, I want a radio that will withstand a nuclear attack or the P**sed-off wife !!! (lol)

Suggestions?

I don't know what these 'factory refurbs' really are. I'm wondering if they are even looked at before they're re-sold.

Thanks,

H.
