i am looking to rebuild the back wall on my 22 foot sea ray

im probably going to use 3/4" gray starboard. i was wondering if anyone has used it before for a similar project. i wanted to know if i could get away with using 1/2" instead of 3/4". would it be stiff enough and strong enough for what i want it for

thanks . and is there any place i can purchase it in the new york area??????brooklyn or long island area

I've been told 3/4 starboard has the stiffness of 1/2 ply, but I think 18" is the biggest span the maker recommends. all i know is its dang heavy! a 1/2 sheet is like 120 lbs. also nothing sticks to it , such as glue paint caulking etc.

no. its an i/o. not an outboard. the back wall is only 2 feet high. its 72" in length. it really doesnt have any structural needs except for maybe to hold up the cushion that flips up to get to the battery and trim pump. it will be braced at each end with L brackets and twice more throughout. it will have a square cutout so it actually spans over the engine

I would go for the 3/4 since people will be resting their backs and possibly apply some pressure on it. It is very strong material. I used it in many applications on my boats including backing plates for downriggers with no issues at all.

The back wall, is that where that motor thingy sticks out that makes the boat go?

That's hilarious!!! Sorry ratking couldn't help but laugh.
