I have a chance to buy a 1979? Starcraft Holiday 22ft V5 hull on a tandem trailer for 1500 dollars. The boat had a OMC IO in it but the current owner removed/sold it.

The hull and trailer appear to be in pretty fair shape.

Has anyone converted one of these to an outboard? or added a offset bracket and outboard similar to the ones you see on boats near the coast?

What hp would be required to have a cruising speed of 30 mph?

Thanks

Re: Starcraft 22' Holiday V5 hull and trailer?

that guy did nice work, but if i were going to the trouble to build one, i'd make it displace enough water to mostly offset the weight of my OB. remember that for those of you who aren't "weldZilla" like that guy, much of the cost and time of welding/fabrication is not the welding itself, it's the fab and fitting....if you can bring it to the TIG welder already fitted together and (ideally) tack welded, you'll save a lot of $

on your other Q, i assume that when you say "cruise", you mean something other than WFO running. so to cruise at 30, you'd need boat with a little more than that on top. i'd say no less than 90-100hp, but 115-`125 would probably be better on a 22' hull

ive got a 22ft v5 holiday i converted to an open boat with a 150hp on it. Topped out at 47mph , and if i remember right cruised at 4000 rpms right above 30. I feel the 150hp is a very good fit to this hull, has plenty of power to not really strain a motor, but not over kill either.

I Have a 22 Holiday with a 200 Johnson OB it will do 50 mph. a 115 or 150 would be good for you as well as a good 140 IO but very costly to buy then install. Id go for a .seal the transom and add a gill bracket or outback bracket and hang a OB on it. look at all ther space you would gain .
