Newbie to forum and boating.
Please bear with me
I'm looking at 2 possible boats to buy.
It is primarily for Me, my wife and two children, but I am sure we'll
have a few weekends of 6 to 10 people boating.
It is on a large lake, 40 miles, that can get a little rough (1-2 ft waves),
and we have a nice sized dock with boat house.

Choice one is a Year 2003 Starcraft Aurora 2000 with a 4.3 L Merc.
The 20 ft seem very nice. Big enough for people and gear, but not too big.

Choice two is a year 2000 Chapparal Sunesta 232 5.0L Merc w/Fuel Injection. This was literally our second boat to test drive, and it just seemed huge. Like a waste to take only 4 people out on. It only had 100 hrs on the engine.

Both boats look new, but the Sunesta in a tad bit nicer shape.
Both boats are at a firm $16,000, with the sunesta loaded with gear and the starcraft with nothing. Starcraft comes with a trailer which we really don't need, and the sunesta has no trailer.

Opinions about motors and boats are appreciated.

Refresh my memory, do both of those designs feature a full width windshield?

Both of these are deck boats.
Each only has a small cockpit shield.
The Sunesta is 23 feet long and the Starcraft is 20.
The 23 footer just seems like so much boat to
only be taking 4 people out 90% of the time.

It's true the 23 footer is overkill so far as capacity goes. But if your lake gets rough, the extra size will improve the ride a bunch. Depends a lot on the lake, even more on the size of the other boats using the lake. (Big cruisers put out bigger wakes than little fishing boats.)
