Was wondering how many of you guys out there stayed with the cable steering. The Starcraft Holiday I am just about to restore has cable steering; my last boat had rod steering, so I'm not sure how the old school steering works, but would appreciate any input. Is it necessary to remove it?

Not necessary if it's in working condition, but night and day difference in my opinion...teleflex would be my choice{and 'is' what I'm using in my elderly tin tub}.

I had the cable steering system in my boat and switched over to the new teleflex system. It seems to have a more solid feeling to it. No complaints yet.

for less than $200 the upgrade is well worth it. Make sure you get the NFB model if you are under 50HP.

Hate to hijack the thread, but, I'm making the switch to the teleflex system and was gonna go pick up a kit today. I was going to go with the Safe T QC kit on my '61 Starcraft Jet ('rude 35hp). You had indicated the NFB model for under 50hp.

Any reason for this?

Thanks
Rick
