Hi everyone,
this is is my first time posting. I have recently got an old Starcraft Capri from my grandfather with a 1973 85hp Jonson (85ESL73m). I had the boat running once last fall for about 10 min before the over heat alarm went off and I shut it down. After it cooled I could not get it started again. Time got away from me and I stored it for the winter.
This summer I have since replaced the water pump it needed to be done by looks of it. Changed the spark plugs, new starter and solenoid. It’s still not running and after perusing the forms and working my way up the level of difficulty it appears that the stator is melted. I’m noticing these are quite expensive I’m starting to ask myself the age old question, how much money do I want to dump into this thing before I’d be better off getting a new motor?
Does anyone one have experience and advice for these larger older Johnson’s and I know this is a loaded question but is it worth putting the money and effort into?
