Re: Starcraft FM 1800

Red, I just picked up a 1991 Monark Legend 1800 FS for $2500.00 with a 100hp Mariner and new EZ Loader trailer. The max rated hp is 150 hp. The U.S. Coast Guard sets the HP rating based on a formula that is on the Coast Guards Recreational Boating site and is part of the Safe Boaters Test.

My boat is a Monark, which is now Legend which is made by Starcraft and sold in Canada. They all trace back to some relationship to Mercury Marine aka Brunswick.

Since it was made in 1990, Starcraft should still have specs on it and might be able to provide some info for you. I have talked to them on several occasions and they seem very eager to help.

Re: Starcraft FM 1800

The horsepower rating should be on the capacity plate on the boat. If the plate is missing, call the manufacturer. I have a 1972 Starcraft and called them for this information because my capacity plate had been partially painted over.

As for the horsepower rating, it is set by the manufacturer, not the Coast Guard. The horsepower rating formulas are for maximum rating, but the manufacturer can and sometimes does list a lower power rating. Also, the manufacturer can also do a performance test method to determine the maximum rating.

Pedestal seat bases are available from just about every maring supplier out there. You will have to be more specific if you want a better answer.
