We are new in boat restoration, this aluminium starcraft SS has a little damages, we have to change the floor, and repair some parts from the motor.
As you can see some parts of the motor base are very rusty and we don?t know if its nessesary change them.
Another problem we have is that we don?t know what kind of rivets to use.
We will apreciate your coments and suggestions.

Thanks for your help.

Nice looking rig you got there. These starcrafts are very easy to work on. I would definatly be thinking about fixing all the rusty parts on the motor before it causes a catastrophic failure.

Welcome aboard trunky, that's a nice SS you've got there. Plenty of life in that hull, with a new deck and transom you will be on your way.:)

That appears to have been in some saltwater based on how much rust has developed on the motor.

Check out some of the restoration threads, there are plenty here on the site and will be a good guide for you to use.

All-aluminum pop rivets work well for above the waterline use, for thru-hull underwater rivets closed end or stainless bolts will work well with 3M 5200 to seal.

Trunky welcome to the starmada. You are at the right place for help with your boat and motor. What you have there is all repairable. The transom should definately be a candidate for replacement. I see motor mount holes that don't have bolts so I suspect water has been getting inside the wood. The paint on the side looks to be in very good shape.
Thanks for posting the pictures right away!

Re: Starcraft SS M?xico restoration

hello Woodonglass, well for the painting job im going to use Dupont paint (imron), its good?? and restoration supplies we just have wallmart! home depot! and that kind of stuff hahahahaha to bad for us! also we have a little fishing and boat store but to expensive ! maybe for the exclusive stuff like BILGE PUMP, NAVIGATION LIGHTS, ETC...
we live in a little town in Veracruz, so its kind of hard to find some boat supplies, we are trying to finish the boat like some of the starcrafters here in the forum! its gonna be haaaarrrrrrddddddddd!!!!

Imron is a bit too much money........ the majority of us here use Rustoleum from Home depot ......... save a bunch of money.

You are going to need some zinc chromate primer for bare aluminum spots.

Read through our Starcraft Restoration index and have fun http://forums.iboats.com/showthread.php?t=288451

Bob_VT beat me to it!!! That's why I asked the question about paint. Do you have access to Rusoleum Professional Oil Based Paint and Primer?

Re: Starcraft SS M?xico restoration

I recommend you put a post up in the Mercury outboard repair forum concerning your motor issues. There are a number of engine gurus on this site but not many of them hang out here in the resto forum.

Blue or pink sheet foam from Home Depot if you can get it. Pool noodles possibly if you can get those. Stay away from white styrofoam as it will absorb water like crazy.

EZ has ya covered for flotation there. Don't bother with plastic containers, only the lowest rung bottom feeders go that route.;):D
