I'm ready to install my transom and was wonder how everyone does theirs. Bolt it in and caulk edges or glue transom to aluminum then bolt and caulk edges.
Never seen or heard of anyone gluing the transom on aluminum boat. It's normally just sealed well, transom metal skin is sometimes painted and then wood is bolted to it. As stated PICS really help us to help you!!!:sad:
It's a 1982 16ft open bow Starcraft. The transom (amongst other things) was rotted. Replacing with 2 pieces of 3/4 plywood coated with epoxy. I was just wondering if glueing it in added anymore strength and if anyone did it. Bolted and sealed it is. Thanks.
In my sig line is a link to my thread on rebuilding the transom in our 1981 SS 160. It's one year older than yours but it should be pretty much the same. No gluing except gluing the two pieces of 3/4 plywood together to make the transom thickness correct. I used 3m 5200 on all the bolts and screws and ran a bead along the edge of the transom where the splash well and transom meet.
