Hello, first post, been reading in the background for eons. I bought my first Starcraft this summer and as I fix it up I would like to get some input if anyone cares to chime in or answer questions of mine. The boat is a 1972 Super Sport 16. I also just bought a 76 Capri...😬 Figured I'd say hey and thanks for all that I have learned already from the members of this site.

Any reason not to weld on these SS hulls??

Mine could definitely use a patch on the bottom.

Was thinking of using those new alumaweld rods to address the trouble spot on the bottom. Figure once floor is out and foam removed it would be a good time to weld a plate on there and possibly do some gluvit. Anyone have any input on using those rods on a salty old hull?

Ive never used them before but from a quick internet search, the consensus is its basically glorified solder. It will probably work for a non-pressure/non-structural application, however, my bigger concern would be the fact that you have a metal bonded to a different metal in salt water (perfect electrolysis setup) and I'd be concerned that either the alumiweld or the boat hull is gonna get eaten away over time and you'll be back to square one...

The best repair is going to be to weld the area with the same metal.
