I have a 1960 starflite 75, which runs great, however I just need to know if this motor charges the battery? I do not see an alternator on it. and are there still ( if I need it ) ,, starters avail for these ol beasts?

Is it electric, or manual shift? Electric would be 3 botton's on the control box.

Alternators for those OMC engines were not incorporated until 1961. Your engine, if it had a charging system, would have a notched belt driven generator located to the port (left) side of the carburetor. The belt would be at the top of the generator and would be attached to a drive wheel atop the flywheel.

If you do not see such a item, there is no charging system on that engine.

I don't think you can get starters for it anywhere new, but there's lots available from ebay, local and online outboard junkyards. If there isn't much wrong with yours, you could just bring it to a local starter/alternator rebuilder. It's worth a shot anyway.
