Any electricians? My start button just broke on a 1983 Johnson 9.9 (J10ELCTC). The part is obsolete, 0582961. Power comes in from the battery to the switch, then there are 2 wires coming out. One goes to the terminal block, the other to the neutral start switch. The wire to the terminal block is always hot, the wire to the neutral start switch needs the start button to be pressed for it to work..

My question is, any reason I can't just buy about any start switch (2 wire), and run a jumper from the hot side of the start switch to the terminal block? Then other wire to the neutral start switch..

Go to the auto parts store and get a heavy duty pushbutton. You cannot use a regular ignition switch as it will burn up. Use the wires already there just cut them off.of the old switch.

I ordered a 60A one off Amazon. Will need to figure out how to keep the stress off the wires on the switch..

This switch will directly replace the original: [h=1]Sierra International MP39160 Marine Ignition Switch[/h]

That is not a direct replacement for the 9.9/15 hp start switch. To take pressure of of the wires ,use the hole in the middle of the grab bar. If you dont have one drill one then put a clamp around the wires and bolt it in.

Thanks flyingscott, That's about what I was thinking. Tie a loose knot in the wires and add a clamp to keep stress off the push button terminals.
