Re: start on water

these are exhaust tuned motors that react measurably to head pressure forces on hub .Try tilting motor as far as possible leaving water pick-up in water when attempting to start. if it starts or runs better slowly lower motor into water and see if it stalls. It is likely your carbs are improperly adjusted or obstructed.motors cannot be properly tuned on the hose.need to be in water or on dynomometer

Re: start on water

Bookes, A little more info would be of great help.
Like was it running before this started to happen or has the motor not been run in years before you just found this out. If it was running last week and this happened its a different story, then it was running and went boom and now it doen't start in the water. I have been thru the same thing over the last 3 weeks and mine was connected to an overheat condition. This lead my trouble shooting in a different direction than carbs.
Mine turned out to be a combo of gaskets and timing. The plastic part under the timing base melted and wasn't alowing the timing to advance! This was found by a fellow iboats forum reader.Yours could be stuck if the engine has been sitting for along period!
steve

Re: start on water

I bought this boat at public auction 1 week ago, I took it to a lake the next day, started it in the water after considerable trys, sailed it at various speeds for about 1 hour .
since then have not been able to start it in the water after numerous trys. the boat and motor are in excellent cond. a letter accouming the boat stated the prev.owner had performed a number of repairs to the motor. I suspect the repairs might have put something out of wack.
j.r.
