Plugger

For a duel intake you should be using duel muffs. This will insure proper water pressure to the water pump. You should see it peeing out the telltale hose when using these. You can run it as long as you like at idle speed on the muffs and the thermostat should open within a few minutes. You can get by with a single muff, just watch the water flow and make sure they are on tight.

thank you for the come back....
always another question ...
there is a flush port that i use
during the season would it be a good idea to run some water thru prior
to the first atempt at starting
and is there a way to introduce a "salt inhibitor" as an added measure
in the flushing

*the engine was flushed prior to fogging late last fall

Plugger
I've got a '97 Evinrude 115, very similar to yours. I run it on the hose ~ 15 min. after every outing to flush. I use the $4 Walmart muffs. Salt Away is available at most marine stores, but I haven't used it yet. Idle only and make sure you keep the prop clear if you don't remove it (we should, but I don't.) Don't leave it unattended. Torque on my plugs is 18-20 ft-lbs. Keep an eye on your water meter if you have one.
