Start Solenoid ?

I have a 25hp Yamaha 4 stroke motor. When starting, I get a "click" from the solenoid several times
before it catches and turns the starter motor. I have checked all connections and are okay. Could
this be a defective solenoid?

Sure sounds like the contacts in the relay aren't making contact every time.

It may be a faulty solenoid but my money would be on a high resistance connection breaking down under load.
Battery terminals, negative connection to block, positive main connection to solenoid (both sides) or positive connection to starter motor stud.

Quickly test it with a voltmeter while someone else hits the key for you, it will only take a couple of minutes to find the problem.
