Hello
I still have same problem with the cold motor start. It is never start without spray carb cleaner or gasoline in air intake, when engine cold. And after starts and runs good. If sit about 2 hours need spray again to start. I change and clean up everything, nothing help (I thinks mixture settings needle is bad, because engine run rough when 1 turn out and perfect when 0.5 turn. But nobody has it). So i just drill 2 hole in the engine cover, and when I need, I just spray carb or brake cleaner in the hole and start the motor. Here is the question, it is kill my engine very fast if I will use carb or brake cleaner to start the motor? and what better to use? I never so starting fluid in the spray cans for 2 cycle engines
It is 1987 mercury force 85 hp, compression 130 each cylinder
I use 89 octane fuel and quick silver premium 2-Cycle tcw3 certified Oil
Thanks

DO NOT CONTINUE DOING THIS. Use premixed gas and oil if you need to spray something into the carbs. You are starting the engine with no lubrication with carb cleaner.

Check that your chokes are working. Pushing in on the key should close the chokes plates.

I agree, Starting the engine like that is not good for it at all. It sounds like the choke is not working on the carb, and that will cause it to be almost impossible to start cold. Check all the linkage for choke, and make sure it is working.

That would be the first thing to check.

Choke 100% working, on all 3 carbs.

It's not uncommon for folks to over choke the motor. It doesn't take much to flood the motor which makes it difficult to start. Here is a procedure that I use that seems to work well.

1. Squeeze the primer bulb 4 or 5 times until it gets firm.

2. Put throttle control into neutral and advance the throttle forward. This is the "fast idle" feature of the throttle control.

3. Turn the key to crank the motor over and push in to engage the choke for about a second or two while continuing to crank the motor.

4. If it fails to start first time, repeat. Do not engage the choke more than a few seconds each time. Should take one to three tries to fire.

5. Once it fires, be prepared to pull the throttle back to normal or slightly higher than normal idle speed and allow to warm up.

I have found the problem!!! I have looked very attentively the scheme of the carburettor and have noticed that in each carburettor there are no springs which are on a bolt which holds bowl. I hope it will work if I install it :)
