I have a 2005 Yamaha 115 TXRD. I replaced my ignition switch with an aftermarket switch and blew the 20 amp fuse 2 times. Now I have reinstalled my old switch and only the push to choke works but the starter will not do anything. I tested with a volt meter the pos/neg post on the starter while turning the key and got nothing. Any tips will be greatly appreciated. I do have the Yamaha manual and don?t see any other fuses in line other than the 30 amp.

Can I test this starter by hooking up a jumper cable from the battery to the starter. Or will this fry it??? Also tilt/trim work, oil sending unit push to choke, and all other electronics. The wiring dia looks like everything is connected to one another. Maybe starter relay:confused:...Okay I tested to relay per Yamaha this morning and it clicks. It looks like the trim and starter work off the same relay,is this wrong? If the trim works should the relay be okay. I get nothing when I turn the key no sound no click nothing. Also I tested the starter and it's fine.

If your ignition switch is not mounted inside the control box, using a voltmeter, turn the key to start and check for voltage between the "S" terminal on the switch and ground. If it's not there, the switch is bad. You know this because you said the push to choke function works and that means you have power up to the switch. If you have 12V on that terminal, then work backwards and check for voltage on the wire that runs from the "S" terminal on the switch to the engine. If it does not show 12V the problem is in the harness and very likely at the harness plug. Pull it and clean it and reconnect. Try again. Continue the process of working backward until you find the problem. You know the starter works.

Thank you for your reply Silvertip. When you say "S" terminal what are you refering to? Thanks again. Must be the brown wire?

Well I must have pulled the neutral safety wire loose when I was messing with the ignition. Everything works great now; this is a good lesson in starting out with the easy stuff unlike what I did.
