starter 1150

Starter was sticking in flywheel ring gear. Last time blew armature and feilds. Instaled after market starter works great. Question the drive gear only enters ring gear quater inch , is this proper? Old one went all the way in. Thanks

i cant be 100% that its meant to but my 1982 115 did exactly the same thing as it just worn down and changed it but havnt looked at the new one yet
