One of the starter bolts loosened and snapped the other on my 4.3L Mercruiser. This is the bolt closest to the block,it's recessed about a 16th inch and since the opening faces down towards the bilge it isn't easy to access. I took off the riser and exhaust but still can't work very easily. Aside from the obvious trying to get it out with a speed out / bolt extractor (as expected could not get a centered hole) I now have a mangled bolt. I also tried to get a punch and bit the speed out hole trying to turn it but no luck.
With the exception of removing the engine anyone got any tricks up their sleeve? Maybe try to clean it up with a dremel tool and start over?
