I need to order two starter bolts, one is long and one is short I believe. 1985 Merc A1G1 3.0 at 140 hp, Epic Failure yesterday. Both bolts snapped off, so I'm not 100% sure what bolts I need. Thank God I had Boat US, smartest thing I ever done with this boat. The starter was replaced last year. Unfortunately I'm gonna have to ez out the remainder of the snapped bolts too in the housing. Any links or kit # would be great. Thanks

willing to bet something is lock up and that's why starter bolts snapped

Unless the bolts were the wrong length willing to bet that the stubs since they were not bottomed out or galled will thread right out.

I probably didn't tighten them enough 2 years ago, or they somehow came loose. This happened to me before years ago on a similiar boat, same engine etc.

If I purchase another Chevy starter does it come with the bolts also? I'm looking on rock auto website and there Chevy starters are very reasonable. I might as well replace the starter too.

Ayuh,..... They should be an "on the shelf" option at 'bout any auto parts store,....
My local Napa has 'em in stock, on the shelf,.....
What I had noticed prior to the starter bolts snapping off, was that the engine when it's hot seems to have quite a lot more cranking torque in the ocean and doesn't start right away unless I give it a slight throttle, compared to when starting it hot in my driveway with earmuffs. Do you know what could cause this, Hydro Loc Maybe?

Every ARCO Marine starter I have bought has come with the correct length bolts. If you’re shopping in Rock Auto you’re not getting a marine starter. ARCO isn’t the cheapest but they are good and AFAIK are made here….

hot restarts where opening throttle is required usually means fuel is dribbling down during shutoff time causes a somewhat flooded condition. Opening the throttle more (more air) helps make a leaner mix

the obvious concern would be hydrolock. By quite a bit more cranking torque I assume you mean it is taking more to effort to turn the engine over?

When running on the muffs there is the same amount of water in the exhaust manifold to leak back and cause hydro lock if the manifold was bad. Easy way to tell after sitting take the plugs out and crank it over , if hydro locked water can come out.

if the bolts were loose it would make a grinding noise when starting
