Hello everyone,
Went out to start my boat this morning and all I heard was clicking from the back of the boat. The guages were also jumping a bit while it was clicking. For example, the RPM guage was acting as if the boat were on. Recently my fuel and tilt guages have died, but the boat still started no problem until today. I'm not sure if that's related. I'm no pro mechanic, so any help would be greatly appreciated. I have a 1998 Monterey 180BM with a Volvo Penta I/O.

Thanks!

Re: Starter Clicking

I agree with Don. A little more info on the drive and engine would help. I had a old pickup truck that did the same type of weird stuff. It turned out to be the ignition switch itself. If you can get to the starter, try and jumper the solenoid, that will at least verify if its the starter/solenoid. I would probably take it to your dealer, they can run a check on the system alot easier. Just my deal though, electrical and I have never got along.

I vote for corroded ground on the battery. Next would be low battery, but it would have to be pretty dead to not even turn the engine over slowly.

This is the time of year old batteries start to die.

RedRanger, what kind of boat is that in your avatar? I like the non-girlie boat, traditional lines. :D Also how did you reduce the size of the pic, to that size, without distortion.
