Starter Drops Out - 1981 50 HP Mercury

The starter engages for a second or two then drops down way from the flywheel. Starter or starter solenoid? Thanks for help.

THANK YOU! I replaced all the 12 volt large jumpers on the starter and re-terminated the battery cables. Starter works perfect. You saved me from ordering parts. Awesome.
