I noticed today that my starter rope had no tension. I had to turn the gear to have it move up to engage before I can pull the rope. The motor starts up fine after this. I also noticed a crack on the starter spool and the fill screw on the top no longer screws on (I can just pull it off).

I know I have to replace the cracked starter spool but not sure how to fix the gear. Also, I can’t find the right part for spool so help there would be great too!

Thanks!

I have not worked with the Montgomery Wards because I am in Sweden Europé and they did not come over here.

But they are a Chrysler with another "suit".
Check with Franz Marine he will have the parts if they are available, if not check Ebay.

Ebay is probably going to be your best bet to gather parts to fix it.

They sell parts on this site but don't seem to have the links to the starter for the 10hp.
I found the 1976 10hp. It should have the same parts.
The main parts are available.
Try here or BOATSDOTNET or Franz then eBay.

Buying used parts isn't a good idea.
Your parts are used :)

Oops. That’s marine engine dot com.

Also, any way to fix the gear without replacing it?
