Starter help

Just got an 84 35hp evinrude to replace my 72 25hp johnson.evinrude came with starter bracket but no starter so im takin mine off the johnson to put on it.the brackets are exactly the same but the problem im havin is when i try to put the bracket with starter on the evinrude it doesnt fit.the 3 mounting bolts wont all line up and the starter gear is level with the flywheel instead of being lower.do i just have the wrong starter even though the brackets are the same?

the motors take 2 different starters the 1972 will take starters up to 1976 , & the 1984 will take starters from 1981 to 1994
