Hey fellas,

Well I was having issues with my old starter, ie it was showing the sypmtoms of going out, so i decided to replace it, however now when i hooked up the new one all i hear is a low click noise? now when my first starter went i heard a loud clik, so does this mean my slave solenoid has gone bad too? i check the voltage on th solenoid but im not sure i did it correctly, i had it set to 20dc and read out .58 when i had the ground to one point and red lead to the other post. any help would be great, also, is there an easier way to put this starter in? its really kicking my butt.

Put a test light on the yel/red wire coming off the solenoid while cranking you should get light. we are talking about the solenoid ont he top of the motor not on the starter right...

yeah, its the solenoid on the top of the motor. so i take it that if i get that light to light up then the solenoid is good right? if thats correct where can my problem be?

haha, yeah i used a marine starter, i was suprised at first though because of how much smaller it was than the other but i guess thats the new starters? but yes it is a marine starter, but just curious why would it make a difference? i thought it was a chevy 350 engine?

A marine starter is shielded to prevent sparks that could ignite gas fumes in your bilge (In case you had a fuel leak you weren't aware of)

o, ok thank you, i did not know that. but back to my original questions, if the light test works on the slave solenoid, what else could be my problem?

resistance in the electrical system. Check for clean tight connections, and voltage drop.

I know this may sound crazy but check the battery for proper starting load. I had the same symptom and my battery was going out.
