starter motor trouble

I broke down at sea...I have a glastron sx 175 with a volvo penta 4.3 with an sx out drive.
I have put 4 starter motor in, in the last 4 year I think the problem is when people are climbing back on board from being in the water(the ladder at the back is at the same side as the starter) the salt water is running down the back of the seat and into the starter motor,

Is there anything i can do?

Yes at wally world or k-mart they sell in the food storage section a piece of plastic used as a cutting board.
They come like 3 in a pack,make one of these into a shield.
Or take the starter off and really clean it good.Then there is a product that coats tool handles(liquid rubber)cover this starter in that stuff and coat it after it's in place.Trying to seal it so no water get in.J
