i have a 79 chevy 4cyl....i couldnt get her started, it showed no voltage on my panel. so, i jumped the battery right to the starter, and she started right up...after i turned her off, i tried to start her up without a jump to the starter, and she started right up again....any ideas on what it could be? maybe the starter relay???????????

Re: starter problem

A bad starter relay wouldn't cause you to loose power to your instruments. per your comment (" it showed no voltage on my panel" ).
You may very well have an ignition switch going bad, or a bad main wiring harness connection, or loose connections on the starter, battery, or battery switch.
