Starter Problem

Think I have found the source of my engine not starting.Got my new contacts, fitted them still no go. Last resort the starter.Took me hour and half to get off.When I did found the insides of starter totally meltedand burnt out.If anyone having starting trouble with an OMC COBRA check battery leads are not getting hot , if so change them and then check your starter .

90% of all stater problems are due to poor maintainance on the cables, dirty corroded connections, engine and battery ends, cause arcing, creating heat. the starter doesn't get enough electricity, and gets hot. cracked, nicked, cut cables corrode from the inside out. leaving not enough wire to carry proper current.

Good to hear you found the problem despite requiring the most expensive part of the starting system...

ok - it's Friday - funny story time - I went out to a certain customer's Caterpillar D8H one time years ago with the new starter my boss sent me with per the customer's diagnosis. During my visual inspection I found the old starter in the skid pan underneath the engine. It had already been removed for me .....
......by the connecting rod that had come through the side of the block.
