Need a new starter (1987 85 hp) I see there are a lot on ebay. Prices vary from $79 new to $200 new, of course I like the lower price. Any experience's or info would be great.

Thanks

Re: Starter question 85 hp -- Need one

i needed one for my 85 last year, bought it from iboats.. just make sure the ###'s are right. i think i paid 150-160... and are you sure its the starter? make sure the battery is fully charged and ALL the connections are tight and corrosion free, battery, solenoid, and starter... you would be surprised how many times someone has bought something they didn't need. good luck!

Look up my posts using starter as a search term. I bought one from a guy in either Ohio or WVa and it was cheap and has been working for a year with no problem. He also stands by the stuff he sells. I thought I had a problem with the Bendix and he was willing to send me one before I even sent it back. It was actually a problem with my fuel pump causing the engine to kick back and not the starter.

I bought i used one on ebay and it turned out ok. I had thought that i got a bad starter but it turned out to be a bad connection. What is your starter doing? I bought it from southcentraloutboards on ebay.
