I have 1981 Glastron with 470 Mercruiser and I am trying to remove the starter. Starter has 2 studs with a 12 pt head that you can not get a socket and ratchet or breaker bar on..( not enough room) only thing that fits is a 1/2 in. box end wrench. Any suggestions or tips would be a big help.

use a 1/2 box wrench.
look carefully on the backside of the bell housing as some used 2 long bolts. but it is still a beast to access.
good luck and keep posting

A 12-point ratcheting box wrench will do the trick, the Craftsman reversing type is a fantastic addition to any tool box.

Have fun with it.....I know I did.
Those are probably through bolts just like Rodbolt says above.

The reversible ratcheting type box wrench that I described above "ratches" 32 times per revolution...that allows use in verrrrrry tight locations. No need to turn over to reverse direction, just move the tiny lever like the ones you see on a socket wrench ratchetr.
