I need help on removing the electric starter from an old Mercury 350 (35hp) with serial number 2489645. I have the wiring off, the solinoid off, and one of the two starter mounting bolts out. The other starter mounting bolt is loose but the frame above it prevents removal of the second bolt. There isn't enough clearance to remove the starter moving the bottom of starter toward the front. Clearance seems to be even less if you try to remove it with the bottom toward the back. I have removed the fuel inlet but still not enough to withdraw starter. Only solution I can see is to lower the bottom shroud of the engine but I'm not sure how to do that. Please help!!!!!

Clark, grab a beer...its even worse than you think....most of these old 2 cyl mercs require lifting the powerhead to remove a starter....

With the 350 Mercury 35 hp Outboard starter, this is the only sound way to remove the starter:​
