I have a grinding when trying to start my boat and I assume it is the starter. Should I try to start my boat and warm it up before I pull the starter and risk doing more damage to the ring gear, or try to pull it cold and risk breaking a bolt. I have a 4.3 V6 any pointers on removing the starter?

Thanks!

I don't see a 140 degree engine block having much of an impact on bolts. Sounds as though your worried about breaking bolts, so I would suggest cold engine and spray it down with PB blaster or something like that
