I have a 2003 24’ Four Winns with a 5.7 Volvo Penta that the starter keeps rusting out due to its low position under the motor. Anyone ever repositioned their starter to keep it away from water build up under the motor.
thanks

Ayuh,..... Welcome Aboard,.... Ya can't just move the starter, it mounts in a dedicated spot,.....

What you can do to alleviate the issue is paint it, 'n do more to keep the bilge dry,....

You seen the guy who makes a boat with a screen door in the bottom and
he coats it in rubber?? They make a few different kinds, even spray cans.

You must be getting way too much water in the bilge, if you are rusting out starters. I have an ‘88 FW that’s been on a salt water mooring for 15+ years and I’ve never rusted out a starter except one year when a cooling hose popped off at the transom & flooded the bilge.

I suspect your pump is mounted well forward of the transom. If you have 1 inch of water at the pump you could have 5 inches at the transom when you power up. The water goes into the rear housing and floods the starter
