Starter Slave Solenoid?

Hey guys - I have a 1999 SeaRay 185 Bowrider. 4.3 Mercruiser inboard. When I turn the key all the gauges work and the alarm buzzer sounds - but when I crank the key I get nothing - no clicks or anything. Eventually it will start (up to this point).

I am thinking this is the starter slave solenoid. Do that sounds like that's the problem?

Thanks - beegee

Could be, could also be wiring anywhere from your ignition switch back, starter itself...

Before replacing the part I would make sure voltage is getting to the slave selenoid. Use a multimeter and test for voltage at the selenoid. When the key is turned to the crank position, if you have 12+ volts at the correct post on the selenoid and the selenoid does not 'click' and activate the starter then the selenoid is bad. If you don't have power, then you can start backtracking and find the loose connection or broken wire 'upstream' in the circuit. Most of the time I inspect this condition on a boat it is a bad connection somewhere.
