Re: starter stuck? help!

How old is the motor/ign switch? Sounds like the solenoid. Tap the solenoid a few times and rehook the battery. careful of the sparks when rehooking! The arcing in the solenoid can cause the contacts to stick.

It sounds like your starter relay needs replacing. The relay engages the mando for a few short seconds to turn the fly wheel. If the starter still trys to crank over when you let go of the key it might be time to replace the starter solenoid.

You have 4 wires.. red, black, orange and the red lead to the starter. Disconnect the batt lead.

A quick smack to the starter with a hammer may do the trick.

The easiest way to fix a Force L-Drive is to drive the boat to the middle of the lake and pull the drain plug.

Disconnect small red/yel wire from solenoid & reconnect battery. If starter still engages solenoid is bad - replace!

Re: starter stuck? help!

Mine did the same thing a couple of times. After disconnecting the battery to stop the starter from spinning, the starter would then spin but not engage the flywheel. Prior to this happening, I had just put the shroud back on the motor. In putting it back on it had bumped up against the starter circuitry.

It turned out the problem there was a loose connection on one of the thick wires attached to the starter solenoid. Bumping the motor shroud against them had caused the problem. Tightening all the connections remedied the problem.

Luckily, it only took me about 15 minutes to figure this out and our outing was not spoiled.
