starter trouble 89 150

I have an 89 merc xr4 150. Recently when I start the motor the engine won't turn but I can hear the starter motor run but not engauge the flywheel. I have to bump the key 5-10 times before it will grab. Do I need a new starter or something else.

What exactly happens when the key is turned to the start position? Look at it with the cowl off and report what the bendix is doing. Are there any teeth missing on the flywheel or the starter itself, or is the bendix not engaging fully?
