Starter won't turn!

My boat started fine last Saturday morning. Went out cruising for an hour or so then turned the engine off. When trying to restart the engine, I turned the key and nothing but a click.<br />Tried jumping the battery and still the same. <br /><br />Where should I begin?

Loose/corroded connections @ battery, @ solenoid, @ starter.....would be where I'd check first.

If connections are good, could be bad starter. Try lightly tapping starter with hammer while turning key.

Could also be the slave relay/solenoid. Without knowing what Make, model, year of engine, it's really hard to say for sure.

The enigne is a 95 Merc. 454.

Here is the wiring diagram of your start system.<br />

<br /> <br />a-ignition switch<br />b-neutral safety switch<br />c-slave start solenoid<br />d-circuit breaker<br />e-ground stud<br />f-starter<br />g-wire connection in harness

Don S--do you have the diagram for a volvo 5.7GL. I'm having what sounds like the exact same problem. Thanks!
