need to find a used starter for a '79 johnson 140. anybody know where to get a hold of one? i can find them on the internet for around $220 shipped, but im looking for a used one, pinch every penny i can.

If your old one is rebuildable, any auto electric (starter/alternator) rebuilder in town can rebuild it much cheaper than a used or new and you don't have to pay shipping on a heavy starter. If it's not rebuildable, then try Twin City Outboard in Shakopee, MN. I will assume you have proven that the starter is bad and that it's not the battery, battery cables, starter solenoid, key switch, or related wiring.
