If I disconnect my powere/ground lead to my starter is that make everything dead? Becuase that is what I'<br />m facing? I tryin to run my bilge pump and not getting any juice? <br /><br /> Mercruiser 454 EFI Bravo I 1996

how many bolts connect the starter to the engine? I'm thinking three??? am i right or wrong??? <br /><br />454 EFI 1996 mercrusier

There are only 2 long bolts that go through the starter into the block.<br />If you removed the main cable from the starter, that is obviously hooked up to your house system as well. Many boat manufactures have a seperate wire going for house power and another going to the starter.<br />Best thing to do is hook your automatic bilge pump directly to the battery with a water tight inline fuse holder.

I have a 228 Mercruiser engine and am trying to remove the starter. I have removed two 9/16 bolts and the bracket. The starter will move but won't come out. There is one other 9/16 bolt on the bottom of the starter that I cannot remove. Should this third bolt come off, or I am just being a wimp and have not put the muscle to the starter to pull it off. Thanks, JOHN
