Picked up a project boat recently with the OMC 5.7 GM engine. I've pulled the engine out of the boat and it's on a pallet now. I'm trying to figure out how to jump across the main plug for the ignition to make spark so I can attempt to start this engine. I believe on the mercruiser plugs it's pins 5 & 6 that you plug in the jump wire. Is it the same on the cobra's?

going to assume its carbureted

take jumper cables from battery to B terminal on starter and block ground. take small jumper wire from B terminal on starter to coil +. take screw driver and touch S terminal to B terminal on starter. motor is now running. pull wire to coil to stop.

I've got my 2-wire starter switch hooked to jump the starter. Isn't there a way to jump across the plug instead of running a wire across the coil?
