Starting and idling problem

My Mariner engine runs very strong but I have noticed a few starting problems and sometimes it doesn't want to idle. I have to start the boat in neutral with a bit of throttle to get it to go otherwise it won't start. Also, it usually idles out if I leave it idling for more than 30 seconds or a minute.

I have heard I should turn the adjustment screws on the carbs (three of them) a 1/4 turn. I have also heard I should adjust the throttle cable at the engine to give a bit more throttle at start up and at idle.

Any ideas or suggestions much appreciated. thanks.

Tony

You may also need to replace the restrictors. part # 66517
Should be 5 of them

TMD

The restrictors are located under the intake ports on the side of the engine under your electronic parts.

They let excessive fuel bleed down from one cyl to the next. If the restrictor is damaged or gone it will flood the cylinder below it at idle.

TMD
